Setty & Associates completed a review of the south atrium for thermal comfort and potential for condensation. We recommended that the prime demonstrate that condensation will not occur inside the atrium peak, and that occupants will be thermally comfortable at all levels of the atrium before proceeding to construction documents.

In terms of building energy use, the HVAC alternatives study of 2003 indicates that alternative 3 (electric reheat) is the preferred option, for reasons of both initial and life cycle cost. A low initial cost seems likely, because that system has no boilers. But a lower life cycle cost depends on hourly modeling.

Based on DOE-2.1e, S&A modeling engineers provided a complete list of input variables and their values, along with the annual energy consumption by zone for the preferred alternative and for compliance with ASHRAE standard 90.1.
