Indoor Air Quality Improvement

Atlanta Public Schools (APS) initially engaged SETTY to conduct an Air Performance Study/Clean Air Building Assessment for four of its schools. Following the assessment, APS contracted SETTY and SafeTraces to perform veriDART assessments to gauge the effects of baseline HVAC systems in comparison with baseline HVAC systems equipped with portable HEPA units. As a result of the successful collaboration, SETTY was appointed to oversee the Program Management of the Indoor Air Quality scope of work for 100 Atlanta Public Schools.

The testing services offered by SafeTraces will track the movement of air patterns within a classroom environment by releasing tagged aerosols and collecting air samples at four distinct points in the room. This tracking initiative aims to provide in-situ sampling of how air systems function in schools concerning air circulation, dilution, and filtration (both local and central).

These services are being conducted in four selected schools, namely Toomer Elementary, Whiteford Academy, Barack and Michelle Obama Academy, and Midtown High School.

SETTY's Program Management scope includes developing a testing scope with SafeTraces to achieve objectives such as demonstrating the effectiveness of central airside systems to provide ventilation, modeling airflow patterns to identify poor performance at the room level, measuring the carryover of particulates, and assessing the impact of air purifiers on particulate removal.

SETTY will also examine the test results and help APS interpret the findings for their specific cases, identifying causal effects to help formulate a responsive follow-up to the testing. Additionally, SETTY will determine how testing services like SafeTraces can validate central HVAC improvement projects in the future.
