The Brooklyn Public Library New Lots Branch has long served as a vital community hub since it first opened in 1949. Historically significant, the library sits atop a revolutionary-era burial ground that includes the remains of enslaved individuals, soldiers, and British officers. Over the years, New Lots has become renowned for its extensive programming, particularly its Adult Learning Center, which offers literacy education, high school equivalency prep, and citizenship classes.

The 3-story library will serve as a dynamic cultural anchor in East New York, offering daylight-filled reading rooms, flexible program studios, community gathering spaces, and rooftop terraces with views of the surrounding neighborhood. Designed with deep sensitivity to its context, the building incorporates mass timber’s warm aesthetic and low-carbon benefits, while integrating advanced building systems to maximize comfort, energy efficiency, and long-term performance.

SETTY is providing MEP/FP design for the new 25,000 SF Brooklyn Public Library New Lots branch - a striking mass timber landmark designed by Marble Fairbanks and MASS Design Group.

Our engineering solutions include energy-recovery HVAC loops, networked LED lighting with daylight harvesting, rainwater capture plumbing strategies, and future-ready electrical service — all carefully coordinated to meet the architects’ vision and the technical demands of mass timber construction.

With an emphasis on public-serving and sustainable building systems, Setty is delivering high-performance MEP solutions that support the library’s mission, advance municipal sustainability goals, and provide a welcoming, adaptable space for decades of library users.
