Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), located in Northern Virginia, is the nation’s 10th largest public school system, serving a diverse population of more than 188,000 students in grades prekindergarten through 12. Fairfax County high schools are recognized annually by the Washington Post as being among the most challenging high schools in the United States. The North Springfield Elementary School was designed in 1955 and originally featured 14 classrooms, a library, an office suite, clinic, teachers’ room, cafeteria, and a kitchen.

As subconsultant to VMDO Architects, SETTY services include HVAC Commissioning towards Renovation and Addition of the North Springfield Elementary School. The school’s existing HVAC systems were changed from a traditional RTU/VAV system to a fresh air unit with Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) conditioning. Systems included in commissioning were: Automatic Temperature Control System (ATC), Building Automation System, VRF terminal units, Boilers, Rooftop Units, Energy Recovery Units, Pumps, VFD’s, CUH’s, EUH’s, all piping, valves and fittings.
